Best Places for Senior Pictures: Discovery Park in Seattle

Located in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, Discovery Park is definitely one of my all time favorite senior photoshoot locations.

The 543 acre park has a wide variety of beautiful places to take senior photos, including tall, grassy fields, forest, old buildings, the beach, and even a lighthouse! In the summer, the park is full of beautiful wildflowers and the sunsets there are amazing for golden hour photoshoots.

Discovery Park is a great choice for every season, too! In the fall, the trees there turn stunning shades of red, orange and yellow, and in the winter there are still so many wonderful photo backdrops – like evergreen trees and the beach.

The photos below are from photoshoot at Discovery Park in late March, the beginning of spring.

We started the photoshoot in a small patch of grass in front of a large and shady tree.

Whenever I shoot backlit (like the shots here), I like to try and find trees or foliage to filter the strong sunlight from behind. This way, nothing gets washed out and the light is more even on you.

For our next location, we found a nice spot in front of a newly green spring tree, with the sun behind us again.

We chased the light closer to the north end of the park and found a beautiful grassy area with the golden sun setting behind us.

We then explored a path leading into the forest, and got some really nice photos here taking advantage of the golden, glow-y light!

I decided to break out my fun rainbow-making camera lens device for some more colorful and creative shots in the last minutes of golden hour!
